Ask SUSU

I am from Canada and want to come to Southampton early? ?

If you are aware when applying that you need to arrive early, please state this on your application form. If you find after you have applied that you need to arrive earlier due to course requirements or other unavoidable reasons, please tell us as soon as possible in writing to arrivals@soton.ac.uk. In both cases, please let us know when you intend to arrive and why you need to arrive early.

If you plan to arrive later, please remember that fees are payable from the start date given in your Residence Agreement. You must also inform the Accommodation Office in writing to arrivals@soton.ac.uk of your expected date of arrival to ensure your room remains available to you. If you haven’t moved into your room in Hall within 48 hours of the commencement of your agreement and you have not told us you will be arriving late, then your offer of a room will be withdrawn and the room allocated to another student.

See this webpage for more http://www.soton.ac.uk/accommodation/apply/faqsapply.html

If your room is ready you can move in, if not the university may be able find you an alternative room until her tenancy date commences.  Either way you will have to pay extra for arriving early.
